Behind every Sex Worker is a novel of stories. These can be hilarious, empowering, bleak, heartbreaking, intimate and inspiring all melted together. Every story is different, yet often eerily similar all at once. There is a considerable lack of honest representations of Adult Industry workers in the media and in the community. Disrobed allows real Industry workers to tell their stories in a safe environment, in an effort to eradicate stereotypes and give them a place to be heard.
Listen to our panel of four storytellers as they reveal their own experiences about their time within the Adult Industry. This Disrobed ‘theme’ will be surrounding Sex Work and Disability. We will have Sex Workers who have a disability on the panel, as well as workers who have experience in servicing clients with a disability.
Part of the evening is aimed at educating the general public on how to engage in appropriate interactions with Industry workers, as well as lessons regarding etiquette when visiting strip clubs/brothels. Audience members can submit questions online, that will be answered on the evening by the panelists, depending on the content. Each audience member will receive a printed ‘respect’ package at the end of the event that will summarise some of the topics covered.
The second part of the evening is dedicated to supporting Industry workers themselves. From letting existing workers know that they are not alone in their experiences to educating new workers on industry secrets and providing counselling and information on how to gain other employment after leaving the industry.
There will be a private ‘late’ session after the panel, only open to those already working within the industry or thinking of joining. Workers will be given the opportunity to ask questions, gain advice and chat openly with experienced Industry workers and a counsellor. Workers will also be given a printed package that will cover some commonly asked questions and other information. You don’t need to register for this session, just stay back at the event. This Disrobed we will cover all types of Sex Industry work (brothels, stripping, camming etc.) in the Late Session.
Disrobed is strictly for guests 18 years and over. There may be material covered in the event that may be triggering to survivors of sexual assault, so please be mindful of this prior to purchasing a ticket. In order to support any audience member that may be triggered during the event, a qualified counsellor (LGBTQIA+ and Sex Worker friendly) will be supervising the evening, and all guests will have the opportunity to engage with this service in a private quiet space if required. All panelists will also debrief with the counsellor after the event. Disrobed will be Auslan interpreted.
Disrobed will be a reoccurring event, that we hope to expand to other forms of Sex Work and related topics in the future. All profits from the event will go towards providing more ongoing support to Industry workers through online and printed channels - stay tuned.
