Introducing Pole Dancing princess Miss Roseanna, a 21 year old Communications Student based in Sydney. This sparkling Siren talks about living with mental illness and how dancing has assisted in her recovery.

How long have you been Pole Dancing and learning Lyra?
I have been Pole Dancing for approximately two and a half years and learning Lyra for ten months.

Did you feel nervous before your first lesson?
I was definitely nervous - I didn't know anyone who did Pole or Lyra nor did I have a lot of dance experience. I was worried about how clumsy and uncoordinated I would be but once I got through my first term I was hooked.

What obstacles have you faced as a result of living with mental illness? How has this impacted on your self-love and body image?
Pole and Lyra have been immensely helpful in my recovery from an eating disorder, anxiety and depression. It's helped me accept me for me without judgement, and appreciate what my body can do. It's helped me become so much more confident and happier, in ways I could not have imagined.

How does Pole Dancing and Lyra make you feel?
Pole and lyra both are challenging in their own ways, and learning the two have been so fulfilling and rewarding. It's made me feel like I could conquer anything.

What do you enjoy most about coming to class?
I love the atmosphere at Sky Sirens - everyone is so supportive and appreciative of everything you accomplish!

How would you define Self-Love?
Self-Love is all about acceptance and appreciation of your abilities and attributes. I've definitely found that in my Pole and Lyra journey.

What is your most beautiful physical feature, and why?
I think my most beautiful physical features are my eyes. They are a really unique shape known as "Phoenix" - slightly uplifted at the end of the eye. I think the Phoenix is a perfect representation of my journey in Pole and Lyra.

What advice would you give a Pole or Lyra virgin who was nervous about signing up?
My advice would be, just go for it! You'll achieve strength and flexibility beyond anything you could've imagined, learn tricks you've only dreamed about and have so much fun as well!

We could not have created such a beautiful project without the help of our amazing Photographer Emma from The Black Light.
