Introduce yourself.

My name is Clancy and my pronouns are she/her. I’ve been a student at Sky Sirens since the end of 2019. I do a bit of everything – lyra, sling, burlesque and I recently started pole.

Tell us about your conditions.

I have been diagnosed with endometriosis and pernicious anaemia. The diagnosis was tricky. It was really rough in 2017 – I was in Year 12, and my doctor didn’t know what was wrong but I was very sick. I had issued getting up. I had a lot of blood tests done, and the doctor decided to repeat the pernicious anaemia tests because it had been inconclusive.

Finally, I got treatment for PA and my health was improving.

The diagnosis for endometriosis was a long process. It started with period pain. I saw many doctors for answers. I take many medications, but it still isn’t better.

How does this impact your classes?

It is hard to do some moves, especially if the apparatus is where my uterus is. I also experience chronic fatigue, especially when I am behind on treatment. It is hard to have energy in class to come to class. I can’t do the routine at the end of the class and struggle to keep up.

What do you wish people knew about these conditions?

Very few people know what pernicious anaemia is. It’s not super rare, but it isn’t well known. It’s similar to regular anaemia, and I can’t just take iron pills to get better. I want more awareness for my experiences.
