Introduce yourself

My name is Georgia, and my pronouns are she/her.

How long have you been a student at Sky Sirens?

I’ve been a student for almost a year, and I am currently doing Rubies Sling! I have lived in Surry Hills since 2017, and would always walk past the studio in complete awe. I thought it was such a glamorous, beautiful looking space. I had looked it up online many times, but I never had the confidence to actually enrol into a class. Last year, during the first lockdown, I was at such a low and I thought to myself “fuck it - I am doing this”. I was absolutely terrified, but it only took a couple of lessons to fall in love with it.

What do you identify as within the LGBTQ+ community?

I identify as a proud Lesbian/Gay woman!

I always thought that there was something ‘wrong’ with me. I was never interested in men. I was fascinated by women and by the LGBTQIA+ community - but I also had a lot of negative connotations in relation to being gay due to the things I would hear at school, in the media and in society in general. This made me absolutely terrified at the thought of possibly being gay. I tried my hardest to ‘force’ myself to be straight. My relationships never worked, I was never in love and I never felt happy or attracted to the men I was with.

Finally, when I was 23, I found the courage to admit to myself what I knew all along - and I have been so much happier ever since.

I feel very at home at Sky Sirens knowing that there are so many people from my community here. And if they aren't part of the LGBTQIA+ community directly I know they are allies.

I am free to be entirely myself while doing Sling.
